This is not some difficult story to develop. The news media lacks the staff to investigate using basic information.
WHAT WE KNOW - 13 ACRES IS WHAT AMAZON BOUGHT FOR USE IN BROWNSVILLE
My initial number is speculation. But I think it is generous on my part to assume 9 of the acres will be used for the structure. 4 acres for parking and none warehouse space does not seem like too much to estimate. But if you want to estimate 3 acres for parking, that is fine, nothing really changes.
There are 43,560 square feet in an acre. This means 9 acres of land used for the warehouse will make it 392,040 square feet. If you want to say 10 acres will be used, fine, that means 435,600 square feet for the warehouse.
The average size of an Amazon fulfillment center is 600,000 to 1 million square feet.
This is simple math. So, whatever we are getting will be a lot smaller than a fulfillment center, or if a fulfillment center, will handle a lot less merchandize than its regular fulfillment centers.
If you look to the starting top end salary for your average employee, it will require a two-income family to be able to afford a small mortgage and 1 new medium size care.
To a new family earning this wage it will take a good 5 years of earnings at this level before they will be able to afford a home, assuming they are a 2-income family.
Yes, jobs are jobs. But we must ask what kind of deal was made which shortchanges Brownsville when compared to the rest of the Amazon facilities.
