YOU CANNOT MAKE THIS UP - TRUMP NOMINATES JAMES SULLIVAN TO A LIFETIME FEDERAL JUDGSHIP AFTER BEING TOSSED FROM THE TEXAS SUPREME COURT

Here is the problem, I am suing him for interfering with my federal case because as a member of the Texas Supreme Court he was of the opinion he could issue orders in a pending federal case.

His name and acts are squarely before the federal court of appeals.  It is clear, Trump's staff are not vetting his nominees.  Remember his press secretary lasted a week. 

Another nominee, Maria Chapa Lopez's nomination remains pending after the hearing.  She failed the Bar Exam twice.  She was a successful US Attorney for the Middle District of Florida under Trump.  She has a stellar resume since finally passing the Bar, but some have asked which side of justice she has worked for her entire career.   

Trump's staff seems to fail him when it comes to vetting judicial candidates. 

I will bet Trump will pull Sullivan's nomination.

I think Trump will be loyal to Maria Chapa Lopez.  She has been loyal enough to the Republicans her entire professional career.  She made her name prosecuting active military personnel and now wants to oversee Veteran's Appeals.  It does not fit.

Oh, in 76' my mother was disappointed I had no desire to date her.  They met on the phone a few times.  Those of us who knew her knew she was not going to be a progressive. It was odd because her parents worked hard as immigrants to build a successful business.  

She did three years at UTEP before doing her final year at UT in hopes of getting into UT's law school. She did not make it.  As a second-year law student I helped her to study for the Bar, which she finally passed. 

   THE DEMOCRATS CONTROL THE TEXAS HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES   

This is not a game or a time to settle scores.  In 2030, the Democrats can control redistricting.  The new advantage will go to the Democrats with the Republicans losing even more seats.

If the Democrats can hold onto the Texas House, the Republicans may not regain control of the House of Representatives for years to come.

The Texas Tribune has a great article about how Clayton Tucker, Agriculture Commissioner, and Senator Talarico helped to deliver rural Texas.  Issues very important to rural Texas better play front and center when the Democrats post their agenda.  Rural Texas knows they control the power and will expect policies which make their life easier. If the needs of rural Texas are not front and center, the Democrats can kiss their advantage goodbye.

THE THREE FACES WHICH WILL LEAD TEXAS

GOVERNOR GINA HINOJOSA

Gina just finished a great interview on CNN.  She hit home repeatedly that her agenda is not a Democratic Party Agenda but a universal agenda of the people which meets everyone needs. 

She needs to work with the Lieutenant Governor to have a strong agenda ready to meet the universal needs of the people. We do not need promises of chump change.  As Congress moves forward with Medicare for all, Texas needs to add subsidies for Part B, such as so many other states

We need an employment Tsar who can organize job training for all new incoming jobs.  Locally, communities are failing on this issue.  Locally there is no job coordinator ensuring SpaceX for example demands will be met with new trainees.

Gina needs to be careful on the voucher system. It needs fixing, but she better understand there are progressives who want to use vouchers to send their kids to more progressive schools.

Texas needs to look to NY for a new education system.  Teachers and parents all know too well disruptive students make educating children difficult.  This is not a major problem in NY because NY has a three-tier system of education.

There are Applied classes starting in high school for kids who will look for trades training. Unfortunately, this group will have the disruptive kids.  Regents is an option which mandates passing statewide rigorous exams.  If you do not pass the exams your will not receive a Regents Diploma.  This is needed to enter a university in NY.  Then you have the Honor's program.  The Regents and Honors programs insure only the most serious students are in the programs.  

LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR VIKKI GOODWIN

Goodwin will lead the Democrats in the Senate. Gina needs to understand Goodwin will guide the legislative agenda through the Senate.

CLAYTON TUCKER, AGRICULTURE COMMISSIONER ELECT

The Texas Tribune has a great article on how Clayton delivered rural Texas.  The problems facing rural Texas are impacting the rest of Texas.  If the Democrats dismiss rural Texas, they will lose in 2028.  Clayton Tucker needs to be at the table in a very high-profile way if the Democrats want to hold on to Texas.  

 

THE DEMOCRATS DID NOT WIN AS MUCH AS THE REPUBLICANS LOST - THE INDEPENDENT VOTER

During the Redistricting war I repeatedly said the Republican failed to understand the Independents.  In any Congressional District they are the largest bloc of voters.

The election was a complete rebuke of Donald Trump and the Republican Party which supports him.

Four of five new congressional districts meant to break for the Republicans went to the Democrats because, the Independents said enough is enough.  That is not a pro Democratic vote.

In two years, I would love a complete wipe out of the Republicans so Gina can governor with a clear Democratic majority in the Texas House and Senate. 

But she needs to understand she did not win as much as the Republicans lost because of Trump.

Gina needs to lead right out of the door.  She needs to put the Republicans on the defensive now.  Her speech last night was a flop.  She remains focused on education.  That is fine, but will she call for an investigation of the oil and gas industry which is making major profits? 

Now is the time because it is a hot issue, and she has 4 years before they can use it against her.

Rural Texas broke with Clayton Tucker.  Noone spoke more eloquently on the issues facing rural Texas than Clayton Tucker.  He turned those votes from red to blue.  Gina needs to meet with Clayton ASAP so they can agree on a plan forward.  We do not need giveaways; we need policy which hold the oil and gas industry accountable for the price gauging. 

We need a policy wherein the Texas Veteran's Land board locks in mortgage interest rates at 3.5 % for veterans and 3% for disabled veterans. I defy the Republicans to defy Gina on such a policy. 

We need to build the Texas Democratic brand one group at a time. 

TEXAS SUPREME COURT AND COURT OF CRIMINAL APPEALS WENT BLUE ON NO MONEY

I worked so hard on these campaigns.  I chose not to move forward in federal court before the election for fear I would be accused of using the Republican corruption to influence the election.  My hands are now free.

The Democrats had nearly zero campaign money for these races.  So how did they win?  It was simple.  They were running against Donald Trump Republicans.  Think about it, the Democrats showed up with no money and won because the people had reached their limit with Donald Trump.

The Democrats better get moving fast on their agenda. 

 

Vikki Goodwin as our new Lieutenant Governor will control the legislative agenda. 

Vikki, people are a lot more concerned about issues not related to education.  Yes, education reform needs to be on the agenda, but so too kitchen table issues such as oil and gas.  

Our farmers and truckers need relief on diesel fuel. 

 

TEXAS GOVERNOR ELECT: GINA HINOJOSA

It is good Texas went Blue.  We are all winners.  But she better understand, Trump pushed the Democrats to the win.  

It is now time to govern.  Clayton Tucker has won as Agricultural Commissioner. Gina needs to align with him ASAP.  He ran the best people campaign of anyone with very little money.  His win means he holds the rural vote.  Clayton needs to be heard so he can help the Democratic brand to grow.

No one was closer to the people than Clayton Tucker on all issues.  He was not a handful of issues. he was everything the people wanted. We need a constitutional amendment now to allow the people to vote using referendums.  Putting the people in charge is what Gina needs to do.

Education reform must include a system similar to BOCE in New York where Regions not mere school districts come together for job training while in high school

I wish her the best, and hope she succeeds.

It is time to governor.  I do not want endless Trump investigations.  I want policies which reach the needs of the people.

throughout the state Democrats are winning nearly all statewide offices.  It will be morning before we know for sure. If the numbers hold, a majority of Democrats will hold the Texas Supreme Court and Court of Criminal appeals.

 

WHILE WE WAIT ON SOME SENATE RACES, IT APPEARS TEXAS GOES BLUE ALONG WITH THE REST OF THE COUNTRY

Trump pushed Paxton and Graham of the voters.  I cannot believe South Carolina has gone Blue.  That means Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina all going Blue with Senators.  

The Democrats have officially taken the House.  Things look very good for Talarico and Hinojosa in Texas.  It is truly a Blue Wave. 

The Democrats need to be careful.  Their win is more about distain for Trump than real support for the Democrats.

If the Democrats want to hold power in two years, Gina Hinojosa needs to push for a constitutional amendment to allow for referendums in Texas.  In every Republican state which had a referendum to restore some of Roe v. Wade, the prochoice vote won.

KEY SENATE RACES:  THE FLIPS

Democrats run through the South.  They have taken the Senate in North Carolina, along with a commanding lead in South Carolina.  Georgia has already been called for the incumbent Democrat.

Talarico in Texas has a very commanding lead over Paxton.  Calling the election for Talarico is a formality.

KEY HOUSE RACES:     THE FLIPS

In Florida the Republican redistricting falls on its face, as the Democrats win key seats.

FOR NOW THE DEMOCRATS ARE GAINING SEATS AND OR HOLDING ONTO SEATS

National Reporting remains iffy.

 

FINALLY, ELECTION DAY

ELECTION RETURNS - CAMERON COUNTY AND TEXAS

At this moment Gina Hinojosa has a commanding lead. Boy Texas really had its limits with Trump and his lapdogs.  It is still too early to call it.

Talarico has a commanding lead.  Trump really did a job on the Texas Republican party.  Still too early to call, but Texas is going Blue.

VICENTE GONZALEZ holds a commanding lead.  The AP is not calling it yet, but with 71% of the votes in, Vicente has the election.  This is a double loss for the Republicans because this district was redrawn to benefit the Republicans. 

CAMERON COUNTY RETURNS

As soon as the county posts its link showing the returns I will post it.  For now, as always, I should be able to call Cameron County races between 7:15 and 7:30.

 I can find no link showing returns in Cameron County.  I have been on waiting on Remi Garza to provide me any guidance.  The Herald and Valley Central are also not reporting.

STATE OF TEXAS ELECTION RETURN

THE RETURNS ARE FINALLY POSTED - CAMERON COUNTY GOES SOLID BLUE- THE REPUBLICANS WERE DESTROYED

Once the Texas Secretary of State post its link, I will post it here.

By 8 p.m. we might get some sense of how the election is going. the polls are everywhere. The consensus is Talarico will defeat Paxton.  This is not merely a win for the Democrats.  The win will end the stranglehold the Republicans have on Texas.

No one is predicting a win for either side in the governor' race.  I think the returns will be somewhere between 53-47.  I am not predicting who wins.  I am just saying this will be the spread.

THE BLUE WAVE

If there in in fact a Blue Wave, Gina Hinojosa can win.  But a Blue Wave in a few counties will not do it.  The Talarico Paxton race is unique.  Unlike Hinojosa and Abbott, Talarico can win without a Blue Wave.  There is true a distain for Paxton even among Republicans.  But no such distain exists towards Abbott.

 

IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITY

If you choose to continue to vote for the same people who oversee corruption whether locally or at the state level, you will get corruption.  It is time to be an informed voter.

After 2024, the Democrats were told to stay away from social issues because it cost them in South Texas in 2024.  The Democrats cowardness screwed themselves on this issue.

The Democrats have always had the abortion question wrong.  The Republicans played on the Democrats ill-formed view on the issue.

Abortion and choice are two different issues.  I am as antiabortion as you can get.  But I am also as prochoice as you can get.  Every human being should have complete autonomy over their body, period.

I would never comment on a woman having an abortion. Merely commenting on a woman having an abortion imposes on her autonomy over her body. 

Dobbs which overruled Roe v. Wade, was not about abortion.  It was about making women slaves to the political whims of politicians.  Every woman should have been offended by Dobbs.

Gina's raw story is eloquent in how she separates the two issues. 

I know of two other families which endured the birth of a still born, or which died shortly after birth. That was the mother's choice.  In both cases the parents were able to bury their child.  

GINA WAS SO RAW IN HER TRUTH, I AM CONVINCED WOMAN AND EVEN A LOT OF MEN WOULD HAVE RUN TO SUPPORT IT

It is so sad how the Democrats cowardness on the issue of body autonomy may cost Gina the election.

BASED ON HER STORY, AND THE IMPORTANCE OF AUTONOMY OVER ONE'S BODY, GINA MERITS EVERYONE'S VOTE

And for the record, had she chosen to terminate the pregnancy I would have been just as supportive because it was not about abortion, but autonomy over her body.

The national Democratic Party needs to blast her story non-stop. My prediction on the turnout is 46-53 % will favor Gina.  The numbers equally apply to Abbott.

I am certain if this can get out, a lot of Independents will move in her direction. She puts choice into perspective. In Dobbs the Supreme Court took away the choice.  For me Dobbs was about taking away a woman's choice and not abortion.  Dobbs is horrible.

What Gina shows is that you can believe in life, while understanding we cannot take away a woman's choice.  This is the compromise the Republicans cannot seem to understand.

She should have opened her campaign with this.  I think from square one she would have raised a lot more money.

Every immigrant family who came through Ellis Island knows the facts, CNN has conveniently forgotten.

One key problem on the names happened when the mother came several years after the father.  The mother did not know immigration may have changed the name of her husband when he landed on Ellis Island, so when she arrived with the children, they all had a different name from the father.

The immigration employees routinely changed how people spelled their names.  They were not always familiar with many of the immigrant names.

Under Trump's and Vicente Gonzalez's standards my mother would lose her citizenship and be deported back to Nicaragua. 

I have all of her immigrant paperwork.  Depending on the document she was born on April 9, or 10, 1920 or 1919.  She settled on April 10, 1919.  

Some of her paperwork says Alicia Cervantes Gonzales.  Others say Alicia Concepcion Gonzales.  Some says Alicia C. Cervantes.  Her final citizenship document says Alicia C. Wightman-Cervantes.

Hey Vicente her current address in Pine Lawn Cemetery on Long Island.  

My mother's paperwork constantly changed because some was prepared here in Brownsville, New Orleans, and the US Embassy in Managua.

There is nothing new in variations in a person name during the immigration process.

REPUBLICAN TOM PHILLIPS ENDORSES TALARICO FOR US SENATE

 Texas Republican Senator John Cornyn remains a strong alley with Tom Phillips.  This one endorsement may put Talarico over the top.  I can hardly wait to hear Trumps' response.  

 

MY VOTING PATTERN IS NOT RANDOM - IT IS ANTI-INCUMBENT

    How I voted is not random and arbitrary.  We can all agree that locally the Democrats are the problem.  They are the problem not because they are Democrats, but because they operate under a tent of corruption.

At the state level the Republicans have had control for 30+ years.  If you are about meaningful change, and a desire to end the corruption, you must vote Democrat at the state level.  You either want to end the corruption or not.

THE SOLUTION IS SIMPLE

Locally vote out all the incumbents, meaning Democrats, and statewide, all Republicans.

The message will be clear - we want change.  In two years, we will vote for candidates who truly show an agenda of change. 

 

TEXAS FACES MAJOR SHORTAGE OF DENTAL

Once again Texas Southmost College and BISD fail to prepare students for jobs in demand.

Both BISD and TSC are behind in job training in key areas.  Texas A & M is very active in the LRGV area.  So, the question is why has BISD and TSC not asked for help in training dental hygienists? You have to travel to Corpus for the closest training. 

What says, Denise Garza and Joey Lopez about the lack for job training for dental hygienists?

This is not about liking or not liking anyone.  Denise Garza was prepared to walk away from BISD for a higher paying job as the county clerk.  Fine.  But she lost and now all of a sudden, she cares about the BISD school children again.

I met her once and she was cordial enough. She was willing to talk.  But her action in walking away from BISD so she would be the County Clerk tells you she is about being a career politician and not about the children.

Joey Lopez was sent packing by the people of Cameron County. He is addicted to being an elected official and career politician.  We all know why local social media does not speak the truth about Joey's ties to SpaceX, or his abuse of the Covid vaccine for his supporters.  Local social media is paid to remain silent.

 

IT IS A HARD NO ON PROPOSITION D

By the time you get to proposition D, your eyes are tired.  I do not believe voters are reading all of the propositions.  Proposition D is a hard NO.

 

HEALTH UPDATE, A MIXED BAG

I became disoriented at Bingo during the game known as double bingo.  Block of nine such as double bingo requires you mark all numbers.  In my mind I was waiting on one number to win block of 9.  It was a good thing they did not call the number because we were playing double bingo.  When someone won and I realized what happened I saw I needed O 61 to win double bingo. 

I am certain the brain valve has moved again.  My gait is all off, and I have the intense headaches again.  I have been assured the replacement value will not have any of these problems.

I am ready for the surgery.  

On balance the prostate surgery went well.  I discussed the pain with my doctor, and he assured me in the future I will be fully sedated.  During the prostate surgery he diagnosed a problem with the urethra and bladder neck.  Both will be repaired in March.

We all get old, but not everyone gets the diagnosis they need.

My diabetes seems to be getting better.  I know the hypothalamic dysfunction and normal pressure hydrocephalus can cause chronic dehydration. 

To compound everything, I developed either a viral or bacterial infection in my colon.  I lost 16 pounds in water and mass.  For the last three days I did not eat. We are still waiting on the lab. I was put on a three-day antibiotic which seems to have helped. I discovered Electrolit and it is the best.  My body shut down on the discharge of any fluid to allow for homeostasis to work.  I am up 11-pounds in fluid.  

The Electrolit allowed me to reduce my insulin.  This is good.
