I AM SETTLED IN, AND NOW THAT I HAVE CONTROL, THESE 5 WEEKS AT HOME WILL BE A SUCCESS

This home care is not for everyone.  You must be 100% compliant and capable of being compliant. What you see is a portable IV pump around my neck, with the line running into the PICC line which goes mid-way across my chest. Inside the pouch is an 8-hour dosage of Meropenem, which is used with Vancomycin. The Vancomycin is infused at the clinic in the morning, and then they will change out the Meropenem for a new 8-hour dosage to be done at home.  This is 5-weeks.  This is every day.

But for extreme malpractice at so many levels this never should have happened to me.  The VA infectious disease doctor refused the referral.  He seems to be unaware a CT scan is not reliable for diagnosis of an ENT infection gone really bad.  When they tried to schedule me with him, the appointment was 2 weeks out.  NIH protocol is when you have a referral for antibiotic resistance the patient is started on antibiotic infusion at the hospital at once. Technically this was DHR responsibility, but they said they could not do it.

I have spoken to the correct people to let them know the infectious disease team at VB Harlingen is like winning the lottery in terms of medical care.  I am so blessed.  My infectious disease doctor here in Brownsville is tied to the infectious disease doctor at VB-Harlingen.  These guys made me feel special.  I am so ready to go in the morning for my second session with my copy of Moby Dick in hand.

I know this doctor through his peer at VB Harlingen.  There will be no better home care anywhere in the country. Again, I am blessed.

I do not like my picture, but I really want to educate people.  This is real.  Run from any doctor who wants to just keep on giving you more and more antibiotics.

This never should have happened.  I complained endlessly in messaging that the antibiotics were going to cause problems.  There is no training.  They need to have drilled into them that if they rely on a CT scan, which is never accurate, they can kill their patient.

THIS INSULIN INJECTION COULD NOT HAVE BEEN EASIER

I begged to make sure the transition from the hospital to home be done with a nurse.  The case manager at the VA would not have it.  It became a mess at every level.  A non-VA nurse showed me how to load the needle and set the dosage.  I knew how to inject it.  100% pain free. This is going to be a walk in the park.

I had a list of everything which needed to be addressed before I left the hospital.  The non-VA part went very smoothly.  But it was under orders from my infectious disease doctor.  It was so smooth. I left the hospital with my immediate appointment with my doctor in Brownsville and all the antibiotic medication approved.

With my chronic fatigue now behind me and being at home, I can easily work 8-10 hours a day.
