DA LUIS SAENZ QUESTIONS ELON MUSK'S USE OF GATES TO KEEP VISITORS OUT OF STARBASE
"Still, Cameron County District Attorney Luis V. Saenz pointed to Section 42 of the Texas Penal Code, which describes obstructing a street without legal privilege or authority as a misdemeanor. "
Let's put this into context: This is not a private community. In a private community the residents have a duty to maintain the roads and services.
BEVERLY HILLS AND HOLLYWOOD
I do not know if it is still true, but for decades people would buy maps to the Stars' homes. There were no keeping tourists from driving by their homes and looking in hopes to see a star.
This is the same issue with Starbase. People are curious and hope to see something. I do not know what they hope they will see, but people are people.
I am empathetic to the people of Starbase on this issue, but we cannot have areas closing off non-residential traffic because people want more privacy.
I accept it will be problematic to charge the city of Starbase with a crime. Saenz has shown an interest in acting against Starbase. If he does, he will earn a lot of brownie points among the people of Cameron County. Let's hope he enforces the law as a matter of principle.
If Hollywood stars have to put up with people driving past their homes, then the employees can deal with tourists driving past their homes.
