The Treaty of Versailes effectively ended WWI but became the impetus of WWII. It sought to punish Germany with unsustainable sanctions which threw Germany's economy into turmoil. Germans rallied around Hitler as he promised to end the sanctions and rebuild Germany.
Trump is pressuring oil executives to get behind rebuilding Venezuela's oil infrastructure in exchange for being paid for the property Venezuela allegedly stole from the U.S. oil industry.
It is lost on Trump the Venezuelan revolution came about based on a belief the U.S. oil industry stole the oil from Venezuela. This reality is ingrained in the minds of the Venezuelan people.
Trump has made clear he wants someone to lead Venezuela who can be trusted to do his bidding. To get to this end he has already declared the opposition in Venezuela does not have the support of the people, or experience. Translation, they will not go along with Venezuelan oil being used as restitution to U.S. oil companies.
Trump suggested he could work with the Venezuelan VP, but then this morning made her assent to the leadership impossible. His administration is outlining a conspiracy hatched in Doha, UAE, with Venezuelan vice-president, Delcy Rodríguez, and her brother Jorge who to replace Maduro.
The people of Venezuela will rise up and defend their oil fields and denounce Delcy Rodriguez if they believe she was part of the removal of Maduro. It is not that the people of Venezuela like Maduro, it is that she comes across as selling out Venezuela.
Trump's decision to pull the national guard from the cities he had placed them in, allows him to now use them guard the oil fields in Venezuela. It will not work.
Every oil company Trump is promising restitution to for loss of their assets in Venezuela has to know they will end up in court with Venezuela facing a PR battle they may not want. Working with Trump to steal the assets of Venezuela, will cost them in terms of their reputation.
Oil is supply and demand. The second Venezuelan oil comes online, Saudi Arabia, if not earlier, will cut production. Everyone in the oil industry knows we are at a pricing level, such that going any lower could result in losses for the industry.
When you increase supply without demand, disaster will follow.
